Corfu cruise port guide: old town and beaches
A UNESCO old town, Venetian fortresses and west-coast coves — Corfu mixes easy logistics with real beauty.
Corfu is a green, elegant Greek island where the ship often docks close to a UNESCO-listed old town — a rare combination of easy logistics and genuine beauty. On a single call you can walk a Venetian old town, climb a fortress and still reach a famous beach or a hillside palace.
Where the ship docks
Cruise ships usually berth at Corfu's main port (Neo Limani), on the edge of Corfu Town. Depending on the berth, the old town is a 15–30 minute walk or a short shuttle or taxi ride. There is no tender in normal conditions, so you walk off and go.
Corfu old town
The old town of Corfu is a UNESCO World Heritage Site, and it feels more like Italy than Greece: narrow lanes, pastel shutters, laundry lines and two great Venetian fortresses.
- Old Fortress (Palaio Frourio): on its own promontory, with views back over the town.
- New Fortress: the larger, later fort, a short walk from the port side.
- Liston: the arcaded promenade modelled on Paris, lined with cafés, next to the main square, Spianada.
The town is compact and best explored slowly; getting lost in the lanes is part of the point.
The beaches and the west coast
If you would rather swim or see the landscape, the west coast is where you head:

Paleokastritsa is the classic excursion: a horseshoe of turquoise coves below a hilltop monastery. It is a long way from the port, so it works best as a half-day trip or a ship excursion rather than a quick dip.
Achilleion Palace
South of the town, the Achilleion is a neoclassical palace built for an empress and later owned by a kaiser, set in gardens with views over the coast. It is a popular stop that pairs well with a beach or with a drive through the island's interior.
The old town and the beaches sit at opposite ends of the day. Choose one as your anchor rather than trying to squeeze in both.

- The old town is cobbled and shaded in places — comfortable shoes help.
