Palma de Mallorca cruise port guide: old town and beaches

Palma de Mallorca is one of the most pleasant ports in the Mediterranean, because it does not force you to choose between a city and a beach. The ship docks close to the centre, the old town is walkable, and beaches are reachable without a long transfer.
The port is close to the city
The cruise terminal sits a short distance from the historic centre, with a shuttle or a pleasant waterfront walk into town. That makes Palma easy to explore independently, with no need for a complicated plan.
The old town
Palma's old town is compact and rewarding:

The Sóller train
One of Palma's signature experiences is the vintage wooden train to Sóller, which climbs through the Serra de Tramuntana mountains towards the north coast. It is scenic, popular and best booked in advance. The journey itself, with its wooden carriages and mountain views, is the attraction. The town of Sóller and its port make a lovely half-day.
