The island has transformed into a bustling hub with modern shopping malls, luxury resorts, and a growing financial district. Visitors can enjoy the sandy beaches of Nongsa and Batam Centre, as well as water activities such as jet‑skiing, snorkeling, and parasailing. The Barelang Bridge, a series of six linked bridges, offers scenic drives and cycling paths. Batam also features the Nagoya Hill Mall, one of the largest shopping centers in the region, and the Batam Cable Car, which provides panoramic views of the island and the surrounding sea. With its convenient location, Batam serves as a gateway to the nearby Bintan and Riau archipelagos.
