Ocho Rios puts one of the Caribbean's most famous sights a short drive from the pier: Dunn's River Falls, where you actually climb a waterfall. Add beaches, rainforest and some of the best jerk food in Jamaica, and it's an easy port to enjoy even on a short call.
Where the ship docks
Most ships dock at the Ocho Rios cruise terminal, and you walk off straight into the port village and the edge of town. It's one of the more convenient Jamaican stops: no long tender queue on a normal day, though smaller or busier ships occasionally anchor and tender in.
- The terminal has shops, a craft market and tour desks.
- The town centre is a short walk or a few minutes by taxi from the pier.
- Independent taxis and minibuses wait outside the gates.
Getting around
Taxis and minibuses are the standard way to reach the sights. Fares are usually agreed before you set off, so confirm the price and the return time up front. The main road (the A3) runs past the pier and along the coast.
Dunn's River Falls is only a few kilometres east of town — close enough that many travellers combine it with a beach rather than treating it as a whole-day trip.

Ocho Rios Bay Beach sits right next to the cruise terminal: calm water, easy access and a good option if you don't want to travel far. For snorkelling, boat trips run to nearby reef and places such as the Laughing Waters area.

Food and shopping
Jamaican food is a highlight: jerk chicken or pork, beef patties, festival and fresh fruit. Eat where the locals eat for the best value. The craft market by the port is lively — expect friendly, persistent sellers, and bargain politely.
Planning your time
- Half day (3–4 h): Dunn's River Falls in the morning, then back to town or the beach.
- Full day (6–7 h): falls early, a beach or Blue Hole after lunch, then shopping before all-aboard.
- Climb the falls early: it gets hot and crowded as the day goes on.
Practical tips
- Take water shoes or trainers you don't mind soaking for the falls; lockers and guides are usually available.
- Carry cash for taxis, entrance fees and the market, plus reef-safe sunscreen.
- Agree the return time with your driver and leave a buffer before all-aboard.
