Experiences

Positioned at the narrowest point of the Øresund sound separating Denmark from Sweden, Helsingør is steeped in seafaring history. The town's defining sight is Kronborg Castle, a monumental Renaissance fortress immortalized as Elsinore in William Shakespeare's tragedy Hamlet. Visitors can explore grand royal ballrooms, walk the battlements overlooking the sea, and venture deep into gloomy underground casemates to see the stone statue of the mythical warrior Holger Danske.

Beyond the castle ramparts, Helsingør's town center preserves charming cobblestone alleys lined with colorful 16th-century timber-framed merchants' houses. The town also features the award-winning M/S Maritime Museum of Denmark, built entirely underground inside an abandoned dry dock.
